We spent time with lamp manufacturer Hilliard Lamps in the cozy town of Arcata California. We set out to document the story behind the 40 year anniversary of this one of a kind shop. What we found behind the lamps was a family business, a small group of dedicated artisans, and a genuine love story.
In the summer of 2014, Mino Lora, Co-Executive and Program Director of People's Theatre Project, traveled to Dominican Republic to facilitate a one week Theatre of The Oppressed workshop with at-risk youth from San José De Los Llanos. Over the course of three all-day rehearsals the participants created original plays, based on their real life experiences, that were presented in an interactive "forum theatre" format at a theatre at Bellas Artes in Santo Domingo as part of the International Theatre Festival. People's Theatre Project is a theatre and social justice group based in Washington Heights, NY. PTP.nyc

As assistant director I worked with the director to develop an organic story line that would narrate what goes on behind this mega port. We looked closely in pre-production at the details that could tell the story by focussing in on those brief beautiful moments, and the ports most important asset: its people. Our production was tightly organized to take advantage of natural light and impromptu moments.
